Description

Named after an inlet on Islay’s rugged Atlantic coast, Sanaig is a vatting of both sherry and bourbon casks. The high proportion of Oloroso sherry influence adding a balance of dried fruits and spices to classic Kilchoman citrus sweetness and peat smoke character.

Producer’s Tasting Notes

Nose: Pineapple chunks and white grapes. Hints of fresh coffee carry the earthy, subtly spicy peat.
Palate: More light fruits (this time of the peach variety), with dark chocolate raisins and a whisper of red berries. Peat grows and grows, with a little black pepper too.
Finish: Quite long with coastal peat lasting.

Fantastic whisky

A smoky treat

This small farm distillery is doing exactly what they say. The Sanaid is slightly smoky as expected from Islay. A lovely whisky which I will replace when I empty this bottle.

One of my favourites

Kilchoman is truly one of my favourite peated whiskies. For such a smoky one it isn't at all overpowering, just very drinkable. The Machir Bay probably has the edge for me but this is very highly recommended.
